The author was one of the founding members of the Vietnam Propagation Liberation Army, which became the present-day People’s Army of Vietnam. He rose through the ranks of the army to be made General in 1974. Meanwhile, he also pursued a political career and was Deputy Minister of National Defense charged specifically with preparing the strategic plan for North Vietnam’s liberation of the South. This book thus provides a rare and fascinating insight into the events and deliberations of the Politbureau, Party Central Committee, Central Army Party Committee, and Strategic Staff Office, focusing in particular on the last years of the war, 1973-75.
